Kelly-Marie Bates is an artist who utilises a processed-based method of working to make sense of and channel her emotions. Having always been influenced by the art movement Abstract Expressionism, Bates is interested in how different processes will evoke different feelings. Large expressive paintings could incite hyper, excited and active feelings, but others, like the dot work, could be calm and meditative.

What have you enjoyed most whilst studying at PCA?

Having the access to all kinds of department and facilities, so my work and practice can be pushed even further; I am able to experiment in other disciplines.

What is your artistic style?

​

My style has been and probably always will be very abstract and colourful; I love work that can speak for itself.

What are your future aspirations?

​

In the future I hope to teach art.
